Companies from Spain and El Salvador shared their experiences on solar photovoltaic energy generating project development during the workshop "Photovoltaic Integration in the grids of Spain and El Salvador", organized by the Exports and Investment Promotion Agency of El Salvador (PROESA) together with the Spanish Photovoltaic Union (UNEF) with the support of the European Fund of Regional Development of the European Union and ICEX – Spain´s Exports and Investment Promotion Agency.
"We hope that this meeting will be a useful tool for sharing information about the development of the renewable energy sector such as solar photovoltaic. From the Government of El Salvador, we have the medium and long term goal of transforming our energy matrix and this meeting will be useful to this country goal", said PROESA´s President, Sigfrido Reyes.
"We are here thanks to a meeting which was held in Spain last year, where the Government of El Salvador, through PROESA, presented the investment opportunities in the energy sector within the country. This meeting portrayed first-hand information that we are sure will help our companies with potential investments in El Salvador", said Lucía Dólera, Responsible for Coordination with Partners and International Relations at UNEF.
During the event the Government of El Salvador welcomed entrepreneurs, through the Executive Secretary of the National Energy Council (CNE), José Andrés Márquez. Also, Carolina Vides, PROESA´s Investment Promotion Manager presented the opportunities for the development of investments in the country. Furthermore, information about the experience of photovoltaic integration in the national grid was described by CNE. And finally, the Superintendence of Electricity and Telecommunications (SIGET) outlined the regulatory framework for the development of photovoltaic plants on the Salvadoran network.
The Salvadoran distributor DELSUR also explained the recent bidding process to generate 150 megawatts of non-conventional renewable energy using wind and solar photovoltaic sources, for 20 years from 2019, which El Salvador has started. Local and foreign companies have been invited to the bid. An investment of around $ 300 million is expected over the next two years which will meet the energy demand of around 250,000 Salvadoran homes.
Spain, portrayed its experience on photovoltaic integration in the Spanish electrical grid, provided information about the bank´s technical adviser figure during the financing of solar photovoltaic projects, on regulatory framework for the development of solar photovoltaic plants in the Spanish network, and on keys to success for a photovoltaic project.
Spain exposed these subjects through entities, such as the Photovoltaic Spanish Union, the Economic and Commercial Office of the Embassy of Spain and energy sector companies, such as: Enertis Solar, Vector Four, Isastur Group, Enerland and Alter Energy. The latter shared their experiences of investing in El Salvador, invited Spanish companies to participate in the country´s bidding process and assured that El Salvador is a good destination for investment in this sector.
During the event, meetings between Spanish and Salvadoran companies were also held in order to promote partnerships for the generation of renewable energy in El Salvador.
The event was held on March 9th and 10th, in San Salvador.
