Government of El Salvador organizes forum on solar energy investment opportunities

The Export and Investment Promotion Agency de El Salvador (PROESA) together with the Transmission Company of El Salvador (known in Spanish as ETESAL) and the National Energy Council (known in Spanish as CNE), organized the forum called "Current state of development of solar energy in El Salvador: alternatives and expectations of the sector".

 

The event aims to inform project developers and national investors about the expansion plans of the transmission line to be executed by ETESAL, the current status of solar energy and energy storage by the CNE.

 

Likewise, PROESA, through its president, Salvador Gómez Góchez, gave a presentation about the advantages of investing in photovoltaic solar energy projects, investment opportunities in renewable energy in El Salvador, and made its services available to national and foreign investors in the sector.

 

“This forum represents a valuable opportunity to generates knowledge, to listen different successful experiences, to execute alliances and to look for solutions that bring us closer to a more sustainable configuration of our energy matrix”, Gómez Góchez said.

 

At the same time, he said that the boost to renewable energy that is given by the administration of president Nayib Bukele is part of the Despegue Económico Plan, announced by the president last week, which is a strategy for the reactivation of the Salvadoran economy.

 

During the activity, topics such as the expansion of the transmission line and projects to be executed in 2020 by ETESAL were developed, as well as the state of photovoltaic solar energy in El Salvador and the experiences that have been implemented abroad to promote the move towards renewable energy generation sources.

 

The forum was attended by photovoltaic solar energy project developers Yingli Green Energy Holding Company Limited, and ASEA Brown Boveri (ABB).

 

Yingli Solar, located in Baoding, China, is a solar panel manufacturer that has been the largest producer of photovoltaic modules in the world in 2012 and 2013. And, ABB is a multinational Swiss-Swedish company located in Zurich, Switzerland, which operates mainly in the areas of robotics, energy, heavy electrical equipment and automation technology.

 

The forum was attended by the president of ETESAL, Edwin Núñez; the executive secretary of CNE, Salvador Hándal; the regional sales manager in Latin America and the Caribbean of Yingli Solar, Marisol Neira; the sales specialist in Latin America of ABB, Cristina Padilla; companies in the sector, private banking and other government representatives.
