Working in the heights, known as industrial mountaineering, is a task little used in the country, since it is considered one of the most risky and little exploited tasks so far in El Salvador.

Working at more than 180 meters high hanging from a rope that resists up to 7,000 pounds is one of the services that Soalpi, the first industrial mountaineering company in the country, will undertake.

Mauricio Aguilar, president of Soalpi, assured that the company will be the first in Central America to offer civil construction works at height, which allows reaching places that are difficult to access without the use of support structures and where scaffolding, lifting platforms or patios have limited access.

Industrial mountaineering is an alternative method for the inspection, maintenance and repair of building facades and other industrial structures such as oil refineries, hydroelectric plants, among others.

Aguilar explained that the idea of venturing into this area is because the country has the opportunity to develop in this field and, above all, to try to help reduce the migration of Salvadorans to the United States at a certain point, by creating sources of work.

The businessman added that he seeks to incorporate the hourly payment system, as it is used in the North American country.

«The intention is that I am going to train the personnel who come with me, because, if not, I am going to be wasting a lot of money training each person who arrives. What I want is to bring the philosophy of the United States, that is, pay by the hour, in addition to certifying each of the employees that the company has, "said the Salvadoran.

He added that the fact of entering the country is due to the policies that the current government has, since it gives confidence and the possibility of opening up to new markets and boosting the economy again.

The company created by Aguilar, a Salvadoran based in the United States, will provide services for the installation of equipment on a new platform, inspection of structures in areas of critical scope, remodeling of tubes on oil platforms, work with cranes, visual inspection and ultrasound of bridges, hydroelectric dams and wind turbines, in addition to the repair and remodeling of telephone antenna equipment and sugar mills.

To date, the company has worked with Chevron, New York City, Exxon Mobil, Green Mountain Energy, Dow, Shell, among others. However, it hopes to have Salvadoran companies and government institutions as important clients.
